Welcome to the 17th Cardiff Bay Rally offering a fun filled long weekend of both shore based activities and plenty of quality time boating on the fresh water around Cardiff Bay. As with previous years, our CMBA members are kindly invited by Cardiff Yacht Club (CYC) as their guests for the duration of the rally, receiving full use of club house facilities to include; Spacious lounge bar with uninterrupted views enjoyed across Cardiff Bay from the veranda & sun patio, shower & toilet facilities, slipway, pontoons, mooring, parking for cars & trailers and designated areas for camping tents & motorhomes. In all, it's a fantastic venue for family fun boating.
Cardiff Bay is the area of water created by the Cardiff Barrage in south Cardiff, the capital of Wales. It is also the name commonly given to the surrounding areas of the city. Cardiff Bay is also used as a metonym for Welsh politics, because it is the location of the Senedd (the Welsh Parliament). According to Cardiff Council, the creation of Cardiff Bay is regarded as one of the most successful regeneration projects in the United Kingdom.
Cardiff Bay is supplied by two rivers (Taff and Ely) to form a 500-acre (2.0 km2) freshwater lake around the former dockland area south of the city centre. The 'bay' was formerly tidal, with access to the sea limited to a couple of hours each side of high water but now provides 24-hour access through three locks.
It is hoped that with progress against the pandemic we will be able to enjoy some of our events in 2021, however this event and its date is not yet confirmed. This event is only available for CMBA members to enter, if you would like to attend this event and enjoy the many other benefits of the club, please consider joining the CMBA.
Full details of the rally itinerary will be confirmed closer to the event date.
Moderate - An event on river or lake where strong currents may be experienced and substantial waves when windy are to be expected. In the event of an emergency/breakdown you would signal for assistance, paddle/row or drift ashore but damage could be expected in adverse conditions. A step up from novice when confidence in one’s ability and boat reliability has been proven to oneself. Still suitable for family enjoyment.
