I've never seen this before, but for anyone attempting to do it; don't bother! For the sake of the RNLI and £60 (replacement cost) it doesn't pay to be miserly. The guy who owned this one used to use it off the coast...
For the uninitiated: old style OMC coils had a resin-like coating which breaks down and cracks after awhile causing arc-ing / shorts. The new ones are green or black coated with a plastic that will not break down in your lifetime.
Having seen this the points and condensers will likely be decrepid too (along with the requisite impellor).

Mmmm, nice. OK if you were desperate but not worth it as a long term fix.
Mercs are like women, no 2 are exactly alike. That's what testing is about. In general it is safer to test motors and props than women!
