Cloud white for pre 63 Mercurys?
Anyone know an acceptable puffer can equivalent to 'cloud white' for the old mercs? Someone mentioned a Mercedes truck / van paint that was a good match....

Thinking about it I have also heard of VW van paint & a Toyota colour being used.

Mercs are like women, no 2 are exactly alike. That's what testing is about. In general it is safer to test motors and props than women!

The site says 1992 VW Cashmere White...will have to check Halfords outAlacrity wrote:Thinking about it I have also heard of VW van paint & a Toyota colour being used.
I wonder wether Peter Allen would know - was interested to find a note on the rebuild 61 Johnson 18hp (HumBug's motor)that Toyota White 033 and Ford Cameo Beige were 2 that he used to spray it then. His Merc knowledge is extensive too.
By the way, how do I pull the badge off the face plate - is it glued?

With great care! They are glued on. I would try gently warming the rear of the faceplate with a hot air gun & see it that works, but be carefull.Rapier wrote:

Great care is needed, or else the glue will come away with the bottom of the decal. I used a painter's trowel.
Is the Merc 400 cowl...stripped. The Mk55 will go on the 400. The 300 cowl is unloved till I work out how to restore it; they appear to have used a lighter white and is plain stainless, no ridging...in keeping with the budget model status I guess.

Am keeping mine as a spare. It's in worse condition than yours, with the dents and a bad scratch, a bit of surface rust and paint flake; the dents can be knocked out and my thoughts on the 300 were to spray it phantom black and then use tape to do the lines....
