1960 Mercury 400
Last used this motor on the Lone Star Meteor six or 7 years ago and thought it was time to swap the 55hp Chrysler for this, which is a 44cu.in 45hp motor. Was a struggle as it had sat for so long - not a good thing...Over 3 weekends have gone through the starting system / loom, magneto, with a new old stock magneto housing, new condenser (same as Chrysler / Force), 2nd hand coil (new are £100+), points dressed (new are £80+), fuel pump diaphram, gaskets and check valves, strip and clean carbs and jets. It never started particularly well (unlike my manual start 1960 300), but with a hefty battery fired up instantly and ran well. Roll on summer...
Fasten bra straps and remove dentures...
