I wince everytime someone dry starts an outboard on land - don't do it, OK? Not for 2 seconds, ever..you'll cook the impellor and when you get on the water your engine will SEIZE a short time later. Flush muffs and a hosepipe, or a bucket of water, if you want to test start.
