Chriscraft - Do you mean an image in the 'Signature' line or a small Avatar like those displayed over on the right? If the latter see the post here:

If the former... should be possible but it looks like the image would need to be hosted 'elsewhere'
Where you set your signature (you've obviously found that) there is a button across the top named [IMG].
You'll need to enclose the URL of your image within that tag e.g.:
[ img ]http://www.starguitars.co.uk/broom/headerb.gif[ /img ]
...in this example 'headerb.gif' is the image.
Not the greatest solution methinks as whenever this board loads it will be hunting around for signature pics on other sites. Hmmmm... I'll try to find a more elegant solution.

I'm kind of hoping we'll get away from the full-page signature pics beloved of certain members...!!! 
They, incidentally, caused a lot of problems while I was in the US and forced to use a mega-slow dialup connection!
