Motorboat Weekend - 2nd / 3rd / 4th Sept 2016

Post by Rapier »

The CMBA has been invited to attend the Royal Southern Yacht Club's 'Motorboat Open Weekend' by their Motorboat Committee, on Friday 2nd pm, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September 2016. The event will be hosted by RSrnYC at their premises in Hamble-le-Rice, Hampshire, SO31 4HB. Details are shown in the flyer below.

GIven the nature of the tides and sea around here, this event will fall under the CMBA's 'Challenging' category (details in the CMBA club magazine).

To book, please contact the Sailing Office at the Royal Southern Yacht Club and ask for Tim or Henry. They'll need boat length, type, etc to arrange a safe mooring. The cost of the 3 days is £100 and covers meals etc.

Events / trips might be taken to the Itchen and Hamble Rivers (which are not so challenging), Bucklers Hard, Ashlett Creek, Southampton Harbour and the Isle of Wight. Trailer launching takes place from a good paved slipway and safe storage of trailers has been arranged.

Accommodation in and around Hamble is always very busy, with the number of yachts and marinas, so I encourage early booking. The B&Bs and campsites below are within a few minutes drive of the slipway and Club, but Hotels are out of the way and I would assume charge typical coastal rates in the summer.

The RSrnYC has excellent facilities, a pleasant bar with terrace and great views over the river and moorings. It's expected there will probably be some form of dinner on the Saturday night - they tend to be 3 course (and quality food).

Well what fun that was! :woo: The original planned event by the RSYC was cancelled due to lack of numbers but Rapier went ahead with his own version which was just fabulous. Eight of us were there inc. 3 members all the way down from the North. 1 member sadly ended up a non starter due to engine woes but the rest of us had a wonderful time - even considering the less than clement weather.

All in all a great time was had by all I believe & I would like to thank Rapier for his efforts in salvaging the situation. Fingers crossed we can do it again in 2017!
Mercs are like women, no 2 are exactly alike. That's what testing is about. In general it is safer to test motors and props than women!

Totally agree, many thanks to Rapier for salvaging the event. fantastic weekend with good friends, even with the unsettled weather it was immense fun.
luckily Dave in our party of three brought his fletcher 17 gto, much more suited to the frothy stuff.
love to do this event again.

Although we had engine problems and where not able to get going, even after just having considerable work done on the engine in the true CMBA fashion Janice and I were quickly found alternative rides and where made to feel most welcome in other members craft. Our thanks to Mike and to Nick for putting up with us and for giving us a great day.
The venue was terrific and we both said we hope that it will become a regular event each year. A very special thank you to all of you that helped us launch ,Paddle back to our recovery trailer and for the recovery itself we could not have done it without you. Great to see our Northern members a long haul for you guys and loved the boat.

Thanks for the kind words. Despite the lack of flat water and bright sunshine it was great to be on the water and even better having 3 great Northern contingent to share it and laughs with us - I will plan another next year.

p.s for a change my camera was in the drybag...anyone with usable pics for the mag please send on to me; even the borrowed phone variety.
