Wooden jet boat-what is it?

Post by ColinF »

Can anyone identify the hull on this jet boat that my Brother and i saved from the scrap man at a farm sale last Autumn. The previous owner got it 20 years ago from somewhere near Huntingdon. There are no maker's plates or ID on the hull.We can just make out what looks like a river registration number G10287.We know the jet unit is a Dowty-Hamilton 2-stage marine jet (Chinook type) of about 1957-58 vintage.Initial research made us think it was something to do with Dowty because the dimensions are so close to the Turbocraft TC146 but these were all glassfibre hulls.Don't know if any Hamilton boats from New Zealand ever made it over here.It could just have been modified at some stage to take the jet unit, the transom has been modified and you can see the original profile on the inside.Does the hull look like anything you've got?

Couldn't post more than 3 pics due to file size etc so here are a couple showing hull construction and original ( outboard? ) transom profile and the stern to show hull shape.
