I got some of my "bits" back from the chromium plater today.

They came up ok!

Broom pisces,where did you purchase your inlayed venners from please?
I have seen advertised 6mm thick teak ply with 5mm wide holly inlay,is this the meterial you have used,i must say its does already look absolutly splendid well done,

Don't wish to Hijack Broompisces post (but I'm sure he won't mind )...

The Brooms with a laminated deck surface used a High Pressure Laminate (Oh, OK - it's Formica)
If you check my blog (link in my sig down there), you'll find all the details. I'm not sure what Broompisces finally plumped for, but it looks mighty similar to the Teak and Holly cabin sole laminate from Robbins that I used on mine - happy to stand corrected when Broompisces chips in

This stuff is often bonded to a substrate - I just used the 'raw' laminate - about 1mm thick - and looking at the bendiness (is that a word?) in the pics, I would guess that this is the same - or very similar.

Robin is indeed correct; I've used the same laminate as he did. Robin was kind enough to give me the contact details of the supplier.

Although my stringers are certified "sound" by the boatyard, the cabin sole had one or two soft spots on it - probably due to many years of indelicate passengers jumping aboard! I have therefore elected to lay a 12mm marine ply cabin sole on top of the current fibreglass one and lay the laminate you see on top of that. The padded vinyl side panels will have 10mm shaved off the bottom to reinstate the gap that existed so that any water in the cabin that runs towards the stern well steers clear of the bottom of the padded side panels.

The new deck and cabin sole is almost completely formed now with only a few minor adjustments required before it is adhered. I was concerned that we wouldn't get a true line where the two sections of laminate butt up to the divider at the windscreen. I'm over the moon with the alignment and (to me!) the full length line is nearly millimetre perfect.

The decking and painting should be finished by next week.

I sent my "mercontrol" box, steering wheel and boss off to be powder coated. The chap I used really is a specialist and thoroughly masked all areas that needed it. I attach a some "before and after" pictures. I hunted for ages to find the "mercontrol" decals on line to no avail. I have therefore scanned the decal at hi res and I am going to get a sign studio to replicate it for me; not on foil backing, but apart from that, it will be authentic. Likewise the inserts on the steering wheel spokes.
