Hi All, here is a sad looking little Broom in which I could acquire for a couple of quid :o it is round the back of my house in a farmyard waiting to be rescued ... has been here for quite a few years that I know of and the guy that got it did not want to sell it up until now, but it got dragged out from some bushes a few weeks ago and I don't think he realised how bad it is  what model is it ? any idea? :hmmm: it's full of water and leaves so no doubt the floor and stringers will be shot ? :hmmm: is it worth doing ? :? and what size outboard would push this along quite nicely to a planing speed ? short shaft or long ? I know these are a hypothetical questions, but just want to satisfy my curiosity :giggle:

Is a Broom Gemini, 12'6", small V bottom, def a lake boat...was designed to take the place of the plywood Javelin. Nice to own, but not worth the cost of doing up there are plenty in nice condition in all colours of the rainbow for sub £1000, with decent trailers and motors + transom likely to be shot - look for the tea stains where broom used to nail the external (engine side) sacrificial ply piece - few transoms will be sound as water/air is introduced by way of the nails.. They suffer from hard spots on the floor so look for cracking around the bow when the floor meets the hull. Short shaft only, max 40hp best, early 30s out of a Merc 35/40hp, mid 20s or so out of a 40hp OMC, 40hp 3 pot Yamaha was fast, think mid-late 30s. Merc 50hp will be a handful.

Thanks Nick,I think it is a wee bit longer than 12'6 though, it may be the angle of the pic, but will take your advice on the fact of there is so many about, there is ample room behind front seats for a seat in the back or leg room for the back to back seats which makes more sense, I'l take some more pics soon. ;)

Here is a couple of interior pics of this poor little boat  as you can see there is a fair bit of room behind seats so I'm 99% sure it is longer than 12'6 :hmmm: I posted a pic of my brother in laws red broom with a canopy on some time ago and his is a lot shorter than this yellow one :o ( will try and find pic. and re-send it)

That's the Deluxe version, but is the same length. More detail here:-

The screen and Broom's chrome on brass deck hardware can command good prices.
