Ok small Update

The first pictures inside the garage, a bit of a mess I know but I wanted something which needed work








The jockey wheel was deflated and punctured, so took it off and put the front on bricks. The right hand side tyre had no air in it so that came off as well and is no waiting for me to go to the garage to try and inflate it with some compressed air.

Onto some actual work:
Took off the aluminium transom plate which took about an hour because all the screws had been painted over
That left this:

Which is basically just rotten plywood :wall:

I also set about taking off the wheel arches to clean them. Easy job I thought, undo 4 bolt and off it will come. The bolts were rusted solid. It took a lot of persuasion and WD40, but they eventually came off.

They really need a repaint though so I might do that soon.

Jobs coming up are:
Inflate the jockey wheel and the main trailer wheel
Pull it outside for a proper clean and some better photos
Rip off the remains of the transom

Oh and I found a 15 year old flare in the glove box

I know you can't just set them off, but where can I take it. I'm not near the sea so the RNLI is not an option.

Thanks for the update!

May I make a suggestion? I would look into removing the whole deck section... You'll have to have a look, but on mine the top moulding was primarily fitted to the bottom via the rivets that hold the rubbing strake on (and a few others here and there). Drill all these out and see if you can prise the two sections apart. This done you can winch the deck up to your garage roof out of the way and this will allow you easy access to the guts of the thing. Sounds drastic but I think given the scale of the undertaking it would make life a lot easier in the long run.

You may get different opinions/advice but that's what I would do.

Don't forget to replace the bearings on the trailer either - not worth trusting what's on there - honest.

As for the flare - I would take mine down the local chandler - maybe someone else will chip in here...

For doing fibreglass repairs on the hull, will 450gsm CSM be enough or will I want 600 or 900gsm?

450gsm will be easier to work with, it will drape easier over stringers etc and will be easier to wet out too, you can bulk up where needed just by adding more plies.

Good luck with the exams. put a bit of Plus Gas on all the bolts now so when you get back to it they will with any luck be easier to remove.

Was it just one horizontal piece of wood, with two small vertical ones and carpet stretched in between?

Knocked up something that approximated to the shape of the hull from a few bits of lumber left over from building the 'boat shed' and tacked an old towel to the top - only did it due to no trailer at the time.

When I was working on the bottom, it was just resting on some old pontoon fenders... not really ideal but you have to be inventive if you're on a shoestring
