Itchen River, Southampton

Launchsite is: Crosshouse Road, Southampton, S014 5GZ. The slipway is shallow but wide (and slippery....) it has no mooring / pontoon facilities and has drop offs on both sides with long concrete (immersed) fingers running into the sea on either side. At low tide the slipway is half it's width (see pic). During Spring tides launching / slipping out on a dropping tide can be interesting, with a tidal rip and if left unsupervised, your boat will be high and dry quickly,or floating out to sea! The slipway can get crowded as the local canoeists and non-club rowers launch from there.

Carpark is shown, the pay and display machine will take coins and cards. Is about £4 for the day. Cars can be parked in the carpark, trailers to one side of the slipway, in the marked bays. Bring locks / clamps.

Trips to the Jolly Sailor
Jolly Sailor Lands End Road, Old Bursledon, Southampton, SO31 8DN. Their pontoon is shown - if the weather is nice there can be other boats and you may have to raft up, so bring fenders.

Hamble River speed limit from the markers at the entrance to the upper reaches is 6 knot / no wash zone. The Harbour Master is vociferous about this...and as there are pontoon moored yachts all the way along we need to be very considerate. From experience I think is about 35mins to get from the mouth to the Jolly Sailor.
Harbour dues I think these will be about £4 if asked for.
