Re: Bilge pump question!
That's right - my comments are specifically about my experience with chris craft, which are traditional mahogany planked construction, rather than plywood, which may be very different.

Re: Bilge pump question!
A few thoughts... from experience of our CC Best to get one with an integral float switch. Also useful to have an on-off switch that over-rides. We also rigged ours to still be active even when the rest of the boat's electrics were isolated; we wanted to isolate the electrics because the starter but...

Re: Oil Change query!
I used to take the top off the gearbox carefully and I never felt the need to replace the gasket. It isn't under high pressure. You can get quite a lot of the oil out that way; also think about tipping the boat to bring the oil down to that end. Obviously you have done your research about the type o...

Re: albatross continental painting hull
I hope that this isn't too late, but you are not supposed to paint the outside of the hull where the heat exchangers are situated, as this will seriously reduce the efficiency of the heat exchangers.
With a climax engine working hard, you will need all the cooling you can get.

Re: Windermere - going from bad to worse?
right or wrong, the punishment (c£600) for 20mph in a 10mph zone seems disproportionate. You would get less for doing 80mph past a school.
Besides, who is the victim that needs another £15?

Re: life jackets
strongly suggest that you buy a jacket for the children with an internal harness, which is not an automatic inflation. that way you aren't reliant on a mechanism to work, and you can always grab them and pull them out using the harness. ours have been crewsaver, and very good. these are the ones: ht...

Re: Fuel Additives
As I understand it, the whole issue of valve seat recession was overblown at the time of the withdrawal of lead. For low-revving engines with relatively low usage, VSR is unlikely to trouble the engine in your lifetime. For racing engines, being thrashed at 6000 revs over long periods, it can become...

Re: Chris Craft service parts
you could always get them from the states.
try http://www.cdsengine.com/marine.html or Jon Reus at http://mbbw.com/. Basic service parts shouldn't be that heavy.
