CAD v A4 sketchpad

Dreaming of my ideal runabout, I have been playing with computer aided design and after many ours of puzzling on the laptop the results are beginning to bear fruit. Last years design was doodled on two or three sheets of A4 .... The new boat is a result of a clutch of files stored away in a cloud of...

Re: My new woody runabout

All's well with the varnishing now. Improvements have been made to the sealing gasket of the hatch cover, and clearance for accomodating the outboard carry handle. My trailer has been given an overhaul too. I thought some of you might be interested in seeing one of the inspirational craft that led m...

Re: My new woody runabout

Puttings wrongs to right has obliged me to strip back the varnish on the sides due to one small mistake !!! I used Liberon sanding sealer between the gunnels and chine while she was still upside down, in the belief that it would speed up the job of varnishing. Fortunately I chose not to do the same ...

My daughter's partner is a professional spearfisherman and medic. The video link here shows a recent trip off Lands End. https://youtu.be/U0TrYic8iio . Some quite extreme conditions are to be found about this area but their rib is quite a bit larger than the Goodwin RIB. Max has many more trips plan...

Exe Estuary Launch Site

The Google map shows several launch sites for the Exe Estuary but not this one at Starcross.. Advantages are: small free car and trailer parking in daylight hours, concrete slip then gravel bed good for 2hours either side of high tide. Limited height beneath rail arch at high spring tide and a flood...

Re: My new woody runabout

Hi Water-buoy, I pencilled the design out on a couple of A4 sheets after pondering over various other designs. Its an attempt at capturing the old style runabout above the waterline and the present day RIB below. An 1/8th scale half model was carved solid so I could take measurements for the mould s...

Re: My new woody runabout

Unsure if my quirky creation qualifies as a classic. At present its varnish is being touched up and a small modification to the outboard well has been made. Being too shallow, the well fouled the carry handle when the outboard was only half raised.

My new woody runabout

This enthusiast for things wooden was busy during the first lockdown with a runabout build.
My blog includes pages with images and progress reports on the road to completion in August 2020. (link below here)
