Re: Broom Rapier Mk. 2

Don't use plastic padding, it will fall out, use West epoxy with one of there filler powders, it may be a bit more messing about, wetting the screw heads first with Epoxy , then going round with west/filler, but the end result will be far better.......not a bodge..!! You have stripped the boat this ...

Re: Merc gear ratios

I agree with fastjeff, if it was from a triple, it won't fit, it may have been from the older 650 four, from the mid to late 60s, but not sure what the ratio is without looking in the manual, I'm sure I remember a "service bulletin" back in the day ( around 1965 ) re a change of gear ratios in produ...

Re: Glastron Carlson CV 19 SS (1974)

I've sprayed Metal flake, back in the 70s when it was in fashion, never had a problem , use a under cup gun, put some ball bearings in it to keep the flakes in suspension, use a large nozzle, any good paint sprayer should be able to get there head round it , there's no difference in the prep, with s...

Re: Hydro steering

Yes, wind it in alternate direction in each channel, as to how many turns, we like to set them up so as they have still got around 1- 1 1/2 turns left on the drum when its on full lock as a minimum , also don't use plastic covered steering cable, use soft ( flexible) rigging cable.

Re: 14hp crecent outboard info/ parts

drain the gear oil , fill it with new oil, and use the engine, then drain the gear oil and see if its contaminated , if it is, its a gearbox oil seal, if not its unburnt fuel, what size boat is it used on ? and what pitch prop is fitted ?

Re: 14hp crecent outboard info/ parts

The hole in the leg is a drain hole, all outboard legs fill with water when used, emulsified oil could be unburnt fuel mixing with the water in the leg, or gear oil leaking into the leg due to a failed oil seal .

Re: Trailer winch?

Its a winch for winching the trailer to the car, not for winching the boat on the trailer. the flat bit hinges down and goes on the ground , and the hole goes over the tow ball...simples.. :perfect:

Re: Broom Aquarius port lean

Its torque reaction off the prop, when we used to sell them new back in the 80s, we used to off set the motor to starboard 1" to an 1 1/2". the adjustable trim tab aft of the prop is more effective counter acting torque steer, also just check you don't have any water trapped under the floor, we had ...

Re: Classic z drive ?

Not sure I'd want if it were free..!!.... no one really knows what it is, so you won't get any spares for it, its not anything from any of the main stream names; ie , Volvo, Mercruiser, OMC, etc and it has to be well over 40 years old !!
