Re: Simmonds #55 Restoration

Suggest that you don’t blast the paint off.
You can buy professional grade stripper which works well but please use proper care, protection and ventilation.

Re: Engine cutting out - potential causes

Yes, check the rotor arm for cracks which allow the ht to short to Earth, the spring contact in the distributor cap and the lead from the coil to the cap. Since it completely cuts it must be in something that is common to all cylinders rather than just one cylinder. In motoring terms, the vast major...

Re: Engine cutting out - potential causes

Cutting out like that is 99% electrical.
Points, condenser, cheap to replace. If still a problem it could be the coil.
Double check all the ignition wiring as you could have a dodgy connection/connector if it’s been standing for a while.

Re: Ford Consul / Zephyr parts

Have you thought of having the valve seats cut and new, hard inserts fitted?
Might make one less task.

Re: Steering wheel taper?

It’s probably Morse Taper 2 (MT2), you can buy readers quite easily and they can be mounted in a vice and the wheel rotated carefully to ream out the hole to the correct diameter and depth.

Re: Glue used on Tremlett and Stapley Hulls

Years ago I used “Cascamite”, you can still buy it as “Resintite”. It’s certainly mixed with water and yes it is brittle. That said, a properly made joint will be very strong, exceeding that of the wood. However, again years ago, I discovered that it is NOT waterproof, that is you should not use if ...

Re: Coventry Victor MW2

Hi Keith, It’s a shame that you are not getting answers and or help from the forum but it’s not surprising as you rarely see responses. I don’t know about your engine specifically but the fact that one plug is sooty and the other is clean needs investigation. Perhaps you could swap the plugs to see ...

Re: Adhesive for Trackmark

Thanks for the various inputs.
By well abraded I just meant to take the shine off the aluminium panel to give some key. 80/120 with the random orbital sander.
Well it can’t be that difficult? What could possibly go wrong!

Adhesive for Trackmark

I've found enough Trackmark for the floor of A54. Question now is what to stick to with. You can buy specialised adhesives but very costly for much more than is needed. Bostick seems to be a cheaper option but they advise a special primer - still expensive. Any other suggestions or spare cans lying ...

Re: PROBLEM WITH FACEBOOK

Hi Mel, I guess you are using Safari? You could try resetting to clear out the history but be careful you could lose any passwords you have allowed Safari to remember. As an interim, load up Firefox and try that. If it works then Safari is your problem and a reset should fix it. Cheers, Malcolm, the...
