Re: can any one identify this boat
Hello, even the lengthwise bearers and the cooling pods say it's an Albatross. The number might be on the keg (if it's till there), on the seat back - but I think that's gone and the footwell hatch - but I think that's gone. Re the engine and gearbox, this looks very unlikely due to the very limited...

Re: can any one identify this boat
I’m sure it started life as an Albatross but has been severely butchered. The side opening bonnet is interesting but again, I think, nor original. The transom is not strong enough To take an outboard as it stands. I recall some other pics recently, I think the dashboard and front cockpit bulkhead an...

Re: Engine cutting out - potential causes
There is no good reason for the switch to be hot unless the contacts are dirty which would have complex results, including be8ng intermittent. Yes, it could be that the switch is bad. An easy test is to have a 12 v filament bulb across the coil. It should light when the points are closed and be a bi...

Keep going, please recheck that you have a spark when it won’t start, it’s possible that there’s still something in the electrics. Also, I’ve had a magnetic electronic ignition fail quite quickly and give the symptoms you have. If you have a spark then go for fuel pump diaphragm, blocked or dirty ta...

Re: Boat Insurance
I use Navigators and General and tried to move to more than one boat on one policy in the simple basis that for third party the risk in when the boat in in the water and there will only be one of two on the water at any time. Quick answer - No! Also, and I suppose there is some justification for cur...

Re: Simmonds #55 Restoration
Synstrip is good and strong. Retail/consumer strippers have been made safer = less nasty chemicals = don’t stop so well so avoid them. Professional strippers still function but you may need to make a declaration to the seller which is fine but you should ensure good people and use in a very well ven...

Re: Customs Hold Up on Vintage Outboard
There are various reasons ranging from errors in the documentation, the nature of the goods and simple random detailed checking which is used by the customs authority; you can’t do much about that one. My experience is that you get a better overall service by using (and paying for) one of the large ...

Re: Simmonds #55 Restoration
I’m just passing on the advice of an expert if aluminium boats.
He believed that there is always residual grit, either the oxide or soda.
If you have experience to the contrary that’s fine and,of course, up to you.

Re: Engine cutting out - potential causes
It depends, as always. And your budget.... Various types and price ranges are available. If you know the type number for your distributor you should be able to buy a drop in part. You may need to tweek the timing but it should be close enough to start and run well. If you have to it another distribu...
