Finally got them home.
Border Force seem to have given them a close examination, but no obvious damage. For shipping, the seller removed the covers and one of the lower units - but I have all of these.
I'm looking forward to the restoration, but it will be a little while before I can get started.

Re: Customs Hold Up on Vintage Outboard
Some better news today.
Customs say they have examined and released my shipment.
Not out of the woods yet, but quite a relief!

Re: Wanted, Johnson 40 1961 rds23 rebuild parts
Gosh - your powerheads sound good. I'd certainly feel more comfortable dismantling a powerhead and asking an engineering workshop to do some machining - if it's not the only one I've got. What sort of price did you have in mind? Are your powerheads compatible with my RDS-24 model? If you are looking...

Re: Customs Hold Up on Vintage Outboard
I started off with Schumacher Cargo in Los Angeles. They seem to be the specialists for shipping classic cars and engines to and from USA. I didn't think of trying Fed Ex or UPS. When I found the engines in Canada, Schumacher put me onto their shipping partners in Canada - Go Transport Canada. They ...

Re: Wanted, Johnson 40 1961 rds23 rebuild parts
Hi My 1962 RDS-24 is 24:1 mixture. The RDS-24 catalogue (at Marine Engine) lists 0378695 as the standard piston, but lists no over-size piston. The 1965 RDS-27 catalogue also lists 0378695 as the standard piston, but now lists 387697 as the .025 over-size piston, replaced by 0383069 - which I've bou...

Re: Customs Hold Up on Vintage Outboard
Hello again
In case you are wondering why I got two, it's because the seller had cleared them out of an elderly couple's garage. Neither have run for years, but he thought I might have a better chance of getting one 'Runner', with a choice of parts from both.

Customs Hold Up on Vintage Outboard
Hello All I've bought a couple of 1960s Johnson outboards in Canada - but they are currently on Customs Hold in a bonded warehouse in Essex. Does anyone have any experience of this? I don't know why they want to inspect these engines, but when they do they'll find they are as described - very old, n...

Re: Short shaft motor wanted
Hi I eventually found the '60s Johnson V4 I was looking for - in Ontario. Well, it makes sense, that's where they were originally made. I guess it will be a while before I get a commissioned engine, or indeed a suitable boat, but I'm looking forward to making a start. Cheers Andrew PS. According to ...

Re: Wanted, Johnson 40 1961 rds23 rebuild parts
Hi My .025" oversize pistons arrived this week - from USA, at great expense, to say nothing of the £26 Customs fee I had to pay the Post Office. Part number 0383069, casting #311747. Did you manage to find some for your RDS-23? I'm 99% certain that these will be okay on my '62 Johnson 40, RDS-24 - b...

Re: Evinrude coils
Hi
Yes, that chap in Cyprus seems to have loads of good stock doesn't he.
And as you say, no import tax and low postage costs.
I'm planning to order some Johnson/Evinrude parts from him.
Cheers
