According to Kevin Desmond's Century of Outboard Racing ... Kiekhaefer offered exclusive sales of Mercs for the UK to the first racer who would run one of these motors in the UK. There was a special class for it, although it was relatively short lived. The motor was unpopular due to the heavy gyroscopic flywheel and limited potential of the 2 cylinder powerhead. I have never heard of Chrysler considering McCulloch, but they did attempt to buy Mercury in 1960. The sale did not go thru and Mercury was sold to Brunswick instead.

Performance and speed depend on the boat, not the motor.
I am sorry I do not have any information on your boat. On completely different boats the motor is capable of approximately 80 mph, but not on a boat such as yours.

The first year of the official 1500XS was 1976. There were unofficial stealth 155hp motors without the low water pick up but with the fancy louvered cowl at least in 1975 and possibly 1974.
