Cardiff Rally

All day | 12th August 2021 - 15th August 2021

Description

Welcome to the 17th Cardiff Bay Classic Boat Rally offering a fun filled long weekend of both shore based activities and plenty of quality time boating on the fresh water around Cardiff Bay. As with previous years, our CMBA members are kindly invited by Cardiff Yacht Club (CYC) as their guests for the duration of the rally, receiving full use of club house facilities to include; Spacious lounge bar with uninterrupted views enjoyed across Cardiff Bay from the veranda & sun patio, shower & toilet facilities, slipway, pontoons, mooring, parking for cars & trailers and designated areas for camping tents & motorhomes. In all, it's a fantastic venue for family fun boating.

Cardiff Bay is the area of water created by the Cardiff Barrage in south Cardiff, the capital of Wales. It is also the name commonly given to the surrounding areas of the city. Cardiff Bay is also used as a metonym for Welsh politics, because it is the location of the Senedd (the Welsh Parliament). According to Cardiff Council, the creation of Cardiff Bay is regarded as one of the most successful regeneration projects in the United Kingdom.

Cardiff Bay is supplied by two rivers (Taff and Ely) to form a 500-acre (2.0 km2) freshwater lake around the former dockland area south of the city centre. The 'bay' was formerly tidal, with access to the sea limited to a couple of hours each side of high water but now provides 24-hour access through three locks.

Entry

This event is only available for CMBA members to enter, if you would like to attend this event and enjoy the many other benefits of the club, please consider joining the CMBA.

Itinerary

We now have the Green light from Cardiff Yacht Club to go ahead and arrange our annual CMBA event which this year will take place on the above dates. This of course will be subject to any last-minute restrictions placed upon us by the Welsh or National UK Governments and it will be a less formal event. Although they are monitoring the situation which is giving us more freedom of movement at present, we are hopeful this will continue but we are aware that this could change at any time restricting our activities once again.

So, looking on the positive side we invite you to join us for a weekend of Boating enjoyment which I know we have all been looking forward to for some time. This year at Cardiff Yacht Club we will have full usage of the grounds for Motorhomes and Camping on the grass area and the Downstairs Toilets and showers in the clubhouse will be available also. The Bar area will not be available to us, but they are willing to provide a waitress service for drinks etc. The Launch ramp and trailer storage area will be available as will the Car Park and the usual excellent mooring facilities.

Because there is still an element of uncertainty, we will not be holding the usual AGM at Cardiff this year however we plan to have the usual lunch-time Pimm’s Party on Saturday, hopefully in the same area which has always been popular and very well attended in the past.

In view of the current restrictions this year it is not possible to hold our Annual Formal Dinner either on Saturday evening either but it will leave you free to make your own arrangements at the many Restaurants and Bars in town. Regrettably, this year there will be no Catering facilities available at CYC which we can fully understand and we are grateful to them for allowing the event to proceed at all so all members will need to provide their own food.

This is a wonderful venue for boating in a safe environment and ideal for classic boats of all types fast or slow. For those members not having been before we are sure you will not be disappointed by the friendly atmosphere and beautiful scenery that this lovely, sheltered Bay has to offer.
