1960 BigTwin 40hp project

Having had one of these 7 years ago and sold it on, a cheap project came up recently. No spark, plenty of compression and a liklihood of it being a fresh water motor. Washed it off and cleaned it up - the usual ignition bits are needed and is indeed a corrosion free motor - with a crossthreaded plug. Head has come apart with a bit of heat - this model has compression relief valves.

Hope to find the bits to convert it to e-start. Everything else is available off the shelf.

Styling not for everyone, but yes has been trouble free thus far - will be happier once the gearbox is off; I've seen some horrors in there.

Normal wrestle with the gearbox to get it free.

Normal for a project...waterpump screws seized and have to be coaxed out, but more often than not will break, even with heat. Gearbox has lost it's oil and emulsified what's left, probably due to a lack of sealing washers on the drain and fill screws on this motor - is not exclusively the cause, as the other seals can fail.

Parts on order. This is a copy of the December 1959 Data Bulletin - the 1959 BigTwin was 35hp.
