MerControl Overhaul

Post by Scuben »

Hello folks,

I've just stripped down and rebuilt my mercontrol unit as the choke button was missing, the neutral switch broken and the cables stiff and kinked.

Thought id share with you the replacement parts i've used, without resorting to genuine mercury parts.

The neutral start microswitch i replaced with a unit from RS, Part No. 706-4095

I had to shorten the lever as it was too long, but a simple cut with a hacksaw and bit of araldite soon solved the problem. It's slightly thicker than the original but doesn't make any difference and the hole centres are the same.
Fits pretty much perfectly as you can see:

For the choke switch, i opted for a stainless steel IP68 vandal resistant push switch from maplin MG75S. It fits perfectly into the existing choke bezel

Hope someone finds this useful.

Ben

Good post Ben, thank you.
Mercs are like women, no 2 are exactly alike. That's what testing is about. In general it is safer to test motors and props than women!
