ray wright delta prop problem

Post by eddylarge »

Hi, I have a friend with a Ray Wright Delta, bought recently, I helped him sort the engine out as I am a mechanic but need some help with the propshaft, where the shaft goes into the clutch bellhousing the flange has pulled out of the splines and I can't get it back in, am I missing something simple or is it bellhousing off to align the splines?it has a lever actuated clutch on a crossflow engine. Thanks for any advice you can share. :wot: :wot:

It should just push back in as it is a standard automotive clutch & a 1st motion shaft. I suspect the clutch has been released whilst the shaft was removed & it has dropped & is out of alignment. With the clutch released you can hopefully get it back in if the engine is turned as you try. If not then it may be a case of removing the b/hsg & re aligning the clutch as you would in a car.
Mercs are like women, no 2 are exactly alike. That's what testing is about. In general it is safer to test motors and props than women!
