I just acquired a Gaines Universal engine for my Saunders Launch. It has been stored in a barn for 30 years at least.
Its a Straight six sidevalve approx 2.5 ltr capacity, rated 65hp at 3400rpm it seems they were made in the USA by Universal motor Co of Oshkosh Wisconsin & imported by Gaines gearbox & propellor co of Brentford middlesex.
Though the bloke i bought it had a lot of paperwork & manuals for it these appear to have been lost.
Is there anyone out there who has any info on these engines? manuals info anything, are any spares available?
Also curious what colour Gaines painted them in.
It appears to be in rather good condition for its age & supposedly was rebuilt before being stored.
Any help on this appreciated!
