Aluminium/Duralumin sheet specification

Post by AlbertRoss »

Does anyone know the specification of a suitable modern aluminium/duralumin sheet for making a patch to repair the hull of an Albatross?
Or where it can be obtained?

Might not help but 1954 info. says alloy specification was A.W.5C. Bottom and decking thickness was 14 s.w.g and sides, bulkheads and transom 16 s.w.g.
Fasten bra straps and remove dentures...

Suggest you have a try at the search function on this site. Some while ago there was a thread including a source.

Could that have been the "Stainless steel bolts instead of rivets" thread? If so, that's where Jaguar originally posted :-

I paid £81.33 incl VAT for collection only. I think they have other centres across the country. I would think they also supply half sheets or may be even smaller.,When I was phoning around for supply/price there was a vast difference in price, some sheets were 3 times the price i paid so shop around!
They have 13 locations all over England (none in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland). - map here.

I hope my new Alpine floats better than my old one!

I've been having a closer look at 2002 and 2003 (built in 1961) and I've found that nearly everything appears to be around 2mm which equates to 14swg with the exception of the seat strengthening ribs which appear to be around 2·5mm or 12swg. I haven't yet checked the deck and bottom though.
