Glastron Carlson CV 19 SS (1974)

Here are some pictures of my next project. I bought it in Berlin in October 2008 and towed it home to Scotland. Due to work pressures, I only ventured out on it once - on Loch Lomond in late 2008. I decided to restore it to as much of its original condition as I can. The engine is currently out of it undergoing a complete rebuild with (too many ££££!) new parts and the jet drive is also getting rebuilt with new parts as required.

Some of the upholstery is original and some has been quite cheaply replaced by the previous owner. I am very keen to find a source for pleated / fluted vinyl in the original colour seen here. I'm also keen to source the burred walnut effect vinyl which cover the seat bases and also a "sticky back" burred walnut vinyl that features around the inside of the topsides. The 1970's imitation orange carpet will be going, but the black and white TV is staying!

I've been planning the refurbishment for nearly two years and have built up some good contacts with the Classic Glastron sites in the USA which have produced some very valuable information. I have also been able to source a lot of original parts over the past two years.

I am sure I will be asking the members here for their help and advice and I thank you in advance for that!

Don't forget that the TV won't work in the UK. :hmmm:

Nice...I'll hunt around for the number of a guy that bought some engines from me. He had a Colvic runabout with fins that he extended with those of a 59 Cadillac! The long and short of it is he knows an upholsterer who can provide just about every US type and shade (my '59 Lone Star Malubi has unique upholstery too, so will be a good contact).

The pic below is a £700 CV-16 SS I bought a few years back and found it too much to physically move around, so sold it again to a chap who was a fan of them and he restored it with correct paints etc..

Rapier,

Many thanks for that. The upholstery is a key item for me; I don't want to stitch the pleats for the obvious reasons, so hopefully I can find someone that will heat seam them or already have a stock of some.

If you can get me the details of the upholstery boy that would be great!

Very nice CV16 you had!

Regards.

A chap on the American Classic Glastron site sourced the burl effect vinyl I am after for the restoration of his CV21. Here is an image of the vinyl applied to his Glastron. The vinyl in this image has been applied to the lower area only. The vinyl is made by "Avery" and is called "Bravo Burl".
