Hi Howstar
Anyone can launch from the watersports centre but during speed records week you will not be welcome. it is run early November as there is little other traffic about. The Speed Record Team essentially take over the Watersports Centre area. Other than record attempts there is a 10mph speed limit. The place is busy as each record boat is launched before its run then retrieved immediately afterwards. The Speed records Week take over the car park for the week. Offshore boats up to 40 foot also come. A lot of people come to watch. Obviously really high speeds are only possible when there is no wind so you need to be there all these times to catch the very high speed record attempts during weather windows. Last year Ted did 151mph (146mph ave) in his red cat last year. There is a lot of waiting round by a lot of people who can only go in calm water. The runs take place 8am to noon then 2pm to approx 4pm depending on light on Monday till Thursday and 8am to 2pm on Friday commencing Monday 31st October to the 4th November. it's all very carefully regulated under RYA control, boats to racing standards and racing experience and racing licences are checked.
