Does anyone known if parts purchased from Oldmercs are liable to import duty when entring the UK?

Many thanks

It's convoluted, so this may help.

Sometimes you get nailed, sometimes not. I get the grump when charged VAT for well-used parts for 90 year old outboards, then the post office helps itself to a blanket £8 'handling charge' to collect your money to pay to HMRC.

This obviously won't work for everyone, but I got around the problem a few years ago whilst on holiday in the US. I needed some parts for my a Merc500 so ordered them from Oldmercs whilst in the US and had them delivered to the house of our friends in Maryland, where we were staying. Said parts came back in my checked luggage and our flight landed at 05.30. 'Nuff said.

Interestingly, the TSA at Dulles opened my case before it was loaded into the hold and removed one empty plastic water bottle. They left me a nice note to say what they'd done.
