Trailer Refurbishment

Post by broompisces »

I'm looking at refurbishing my 48 year old trailer. I'll shot blast it then re-paint. I want to replace the suspension / hubs / wheels / tyres / mudguards. A question for the forum; are there any suppliers out there you'd recommend to get everything from, or is this an e-bay shopping spree? I want to go for quality items as I don't favour hanging around the hard shoulder, ruing selecting the "cheaper option". The boat is circa 600kg - so no braking parts required. Picture of trailer in current state attached. Many thanks.

I have used Trailer Tek a fair few times:- http://www.trailertek.com they are probably not the cheapest but have a huge range of good quality stock all available mail order.

Hammerite make some good sticky stuff called "Direct to galvanising" paint - ((I think regular paint has a problem getting a key on galvanising) - have used it on most of my trailers when they get shabby - one tip - dont try and brush it in cold weather!

http://www.hammerite.co.uk/products/dir ... _paint.jsp, usually plenty on fleabay at a good price

another suggestion:
First - get any grease off with a chemical degreasing agent, then use Mordant solution (available from a commercial paint/decorator supplier). This turns the galvanised surface black and etched clean ready for primer etc. Use good quality products.
Worked for me on some mudguards.
