Re: Engine cutting out - potential causes
Many thanks. I fitted the electronic ignition as a result of the cutting out, so it shouldn’t be that unless it is an extraordinary coincidence. Unfortunately the cutting out is instantaneous and when trying to restart, it restarts immediately so there is no opportunity to test for lack of spark. I ...

Re: Engine cutting out - potential causes
Many thanks. Yes, kill switch checked and bypassed just in case.
Good idea on the ignition switch. It is as you describe. I’ll take a look, identify it and replace.
Kind regards

Re: Engine cutting out - potential causes
Hello, ran it today. It has new electronic ignition, new HT leads, a different coil, a new distributor cap, new rotor arm... And guess what, it ran beautifully right up until it stopped.... and kept stopping, same as before, except this time it didn’t wait until the engine was warm. I am out of idea...

Re: Customs Hold Up on Vintage Outboard
Maybe customs became suspicious on the basis that they couldn’t see why anyone would go to the trouble and expense of importing two old Non-running outboard motors...

Re: Engine cutting out - potential causes
Many thanks. So I changed the condenser and sure enough, after about 30 mins running it started cutting out again. So I changed the coil immediately, and it carried on cutting out. That leaves cap, leads and rotor arm. Grateful for any recommendations for electronic ignition. It isn’t the original d...

Re: Engine cutting out - potential causes
Thanks. Done the condenser and points this afternoon and will test tomorrow. I have had a look at the wiring and nothing appears significantly amiss. I do have a spare coil and that will be the next thing to try if the above doesn’t work. As I recall, standard coils are not expensive. When we bought...

Climax 1220 stage 2.
Thanks for the advice, I hadn’t thought of that. Makes sense. I have a spare and will swap it out before the next run.
Kind regards

Engine cutting out - potential causes
Hello all Ran my Albatross climax Continental today. All fine, except every so often the engine cut out completely and suddenly. No warning, no stuttering, just stopped Seemed independent of engine revs. Started again immediately and instantly each time. Sounds electrical - perhaps a short, but also...
Re: Huntress?
Many thanks. Disappointed to hear they are wet boats.
I have seen photos of them being towed backwards, looks a strange arrangement.
Best wishes

Huntress?
Dear all, This might be cabin-fever, but giving some thought to the purchase of a Fairey Huntress. It has always been a thought in the back of my mind and thinking about exploring some of the Scottish Isles in it once we are through all of this. Any thoughts or comments on this? Am i mad? Best wishe...
