Merc 500: stubborn screw

Hi Again, I have another issue with my Merc 500. This is 1962 model and is in need of a bit of TLC. Whilst it runs well, it doesn’t push enough water out through the tell-tale, suggesting that the impellor needs replacing and/or the water pump in general needs a good seeing to. My problem centres on...

Re: Merc 500 engine puzzle

There are those (especially in the USA where these motors are more plentiful than here) that advocate using that brass take off point as a second tell tale point as it stops the possibility of an airlock in the top of the block. I like the idea of that. In which case I won't block it off, but will ...

Merc 500 engine puzzle

Hi All, I'm a relatively new member, having signed up at the London Boat Show this year, although I have posted on the forum before. I have a question about my outboard engine, a 1962 Kiekhaefer Mercury Merc500, a 50hp lump. There is a long rubber tube attached to a brass spigot on top of the cylind...

Re: Windscreen fixings

'Deck angles'. Of course, makes perfect sense! I think I saw something else somewhere on the forum about this monkey metal stuff and the fact that it was next to useless. That said, someone has also suggested modification of a Homebase coat hook, so that's where I'm off to tomorrow!

Re: Owens speed boat some of interest

Was looking at the rope steering one - it's a very dangerous setup...places like Aladdin's Cave Rigging does plastic coated stainless wire in 4.2 and 5.0mm at very reasonable cost. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that boat when the rope frays and goes boing. Thanks Rapier. Thoughts of parting r...

Windscreen fixings

Hi, I'm new here as I found the CBMA whilst looking for some information about my boat, so have joined the forum in the hope that someone may be able to help. I am restoring a 1960 17ft Owens 'Kent' and have to re-attach the windscreen to the boat. I need to get hold of some of the brackets that fix...
